Robert has been appointed to the position of Assistant Master of the Music at Buckfast Abbey. His responsibilities will include accompanying the monks in their Daily Office and Conventual Mass, as well as training the child choristers of the Abbey.
Commenting on the appointment, Matthew Searles (Master of the Music) said, “I am thrilled that Robert is joining our team, along with Abbey Organist, David Davies. He brings a clear passion for the liturgy of the Church, and an enthusiasm for our distinctive Catholic musical tradition. We look forward to welcoming Robert and his family to Buckfast in time for Advent.” Robert has been appointed Assistant Organist of Wakefield Cathedral. He will play the organ for services, accompany and conduct the cathedral choir as well as assisting James Bowstead (Acting Director of Music).
On 2nd November 2015 at 6pm Robert will be providing the organ accompaniment for a liturgical performance of Fauré's Requiem at the York Oratory.
The performance will feature the choral scholars of St. Wilfrid's and St. Helen's, conducted by John Ridgeway-Wood. Robert has been appointed Assistant Organist of St. Paul's Church Bloor Street, Toronto (Canada), for the duration of the academic year 2014/2015.
St. Paul's, the largest Anglican church in Toronto, boasts strong musical tradition and a 111-stop Casavant Frères organ. Previous incumbents have included composer Healey Willan (1880-1968), whose famous Introduction, Passacaglia and Fugue in E flat minor (1916) was written with the organ of St. Paul's in mind. 1 February 2014, 4pm - Robert will be accompanying the Choir of Somerville College for a service of Choral Evensong at Coventry Cathedral.
The music includes Edmund Rubbra's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A flat, Herbert Howells' A Hymn for St. Cecilia and organ solo works by Louis Vierne. This performance of Goodall's The Lord is my Shepherd (also known as the theme tune of The Vicar of Dibley) was recorded at a memorial service at Somerville College Chapel, Oxford. Robert Pecksmith will be making his debut as guest organist at St. Paul's Cathedral, London, today. He will be accompanying the Choir of Somerville College in works by Vaughan Williams and Stanford as well as playing the National Anthem at the end of the service. The Accession Day service forms part of the celebrations for the Diamond Jubilee.
The choir will be conducted by David Crown and the solo parts in the coronation anthems and canticles will be sung by Kate Piddington (soprano), Tal Katsir (soprano) and Stephen O'Driscoll (baritone). |
